From it, if the one to whom it is directed is obedience, then they look at the details of its achievement and look at the divine command that suits it and the divine name that has authority over it, then the divine command details for them the sign they seek. If the sign is usual, such as the alternation of night and day, subjugating the clouds, and other usual signs that souls have no knowledge of. The common people said that it was there until they lost it, and when they lost it then they went out for rain and they knew at that time the place of its significance and its value, and that they were in a sign while they did not realize it. So if it came to them and it rained, they returned to their heedlessness. This is the condition of the common people, as God said about them. And they sailed with a good wind, and they rejoiced in it. A stormy wind came to it, and the waves came to them from every place, and they thought that they were surrounded. They called upon God, sincere in their religion... Then when He led them to righteousness when they associate partners, and when they transgress in the land unjustly, God says to them, “O people, your transgression is only against Yourselves are the worldly enjoyment of life. And so they say in the Fire: “I wish we could be turned back.” God Almighty said, “And if they had been turned away, they would have returned to what they were forbidden, just as the owners of the astronomy returned.”
