Suitable occasions are more important than non-suitable matters, and the rank of the imam is higher than that of the one who is praying behind him, so he should be in that best and highest rank, and he should be in a higher position because he is in the position of imitating him, so he must have honor over the one who is praying behind him, as it is a position for the one who is praying behind him. That is why he is called an imam, and he has two states and two states. The first two states are that he is an imam and is followed together in one state, so he follows the weakest of those being led in his prayer, so he is an imam, and the one being led follows him in his bowing, prostration, and all his actions, so he is an imam. The other two states are a state in which he is called a praying person, so he is with his Lord in this state, and he is an imam for others, so he has a state. The praying person should have his business with his Lord and not with anyone other than his Lord, for God divided the prayer between him and the praying person, so he does not have the right to intend to lead. And whoever sees that the Almighty’s saying: “I divided the prayer between Me and My servant into two halves,” without looking at the detail mentioned after this saying in reciting the Mother of the Qur’an, enter. The person being led is not alone, whether he is one, two, or more than two, and it is not empty if he is a man, or two men, or a woman, or a boy. As for the person being followed, if he is a single adult man, he should place him on his right, and if he is a boy, he should place him on his right like a man, and it is said that he should be on his left. So that the rule for a boy should be distinguished from the rule for a man. If there are two men, he places one on his right and the other on his left. If he wishes, he places them behind him. If it is a man and a boy, then the rule for them is the same as the rule for two men. If it is a woman, she is behind the imam if she is alone. If there is one man with her, then the man is on the right of the imam and the woman is behind him, even if there are more.
