This station is called the Maqam al-Qayyumiyah, and our companions disagreed about whether it is created by it or not. I met Abu Abdullah bin Junaid, one of the sheikhs of the sect, from the people of Qabrfiq, from the works of Randa, and he was a Mu’tazilite sect. I saw him prohibiting the creation of Qayyumiyah, so I rejected him from his school of thought, for he used to say that deeds are created for the servants. When He returned to our statement and I explained to him the meaning of God Almighty’s saying: “Men are the guardians of women.” He confirmed that they had a degree in the Qayyumiyah, and he had come to visit us. When he returned to his country, I went to visit him in his country, and I converted him and all his companions from his doctrine of creating actions. He thanked God for that, may God have mercy on him, so imagine someone who has no knowledge. Staying awake is one of the four pillars on which the House of Abdal was built, which are staying awake, hunger, silence, and isolation. We devoted a section to knowing these four that we did in Taif, which we called Hilyat al-Abdal, and we organized it into verses. O he who desires eternal dwellings *** without intending to do good deeds .

Do not covet it, for you are not one of its people *** If you do not compete with them over the circumstances

The House of State has its corners divided *** Our masters are in it From eternity

Between silence and permanent isolation*** and hunger and honest, high vigils

So they made staying up late one of the pillars of standing, which is one of the attributes of the eternal, and their verse is from the Book of God Almighty, Lady, that is, the Qur’an, God: There is no god but He, the Ever-Living, the Ever-Subsisting. Neither year nor sleep can overtake Him, according to the Almighty’s saying, and memorizing them does not lead to it, and He is the Most High, the Great, so look. How amazing is this verse and this characteristic What is meant by faces is us, and what is meant by faces is our realities, since the face of a thing is its reality, and God Almighty said, “And faces” meant the Ever-Living, the Ever-Subsisting, and He said, “Everything is perishing except His face.” So if the servant does not preserve his inner self by staying awake in his heart, just as he preserves his apparent self by staying awake with his eyes, even if he is asleep, then he will be among those whose eyes sleep and whose heart does not sleep. And whoever is not able to have the fifth degree of number, which is a part of what is infinite, then it is a part of number, and number is infinite, so how can he be created with Qayyumah at all? This is not within the power of humans, like speech, and the goal of the one who performs it is the pole of time, for he has the most. There are others in it, so what is required of us is to preserve this attribute. We are vigilant to preserve the universe and establish it. What is necessary for us is more than this, and God is the Protector and All-Knowing, not us. If this attribute is established in us, then we have fulfilled the station due to it.

So, if the person in this position stays awake, he should watch with the eyes of God, and the eyes of God undoubtedly preserve him, the memorization that God knows, not the accidental memorization. For what we have seen, God Almighty preserves for every eye its image, but the reality is different from that, and He is absolute in preservation. Therefore, memorization is not what one imagines of memorizing the images. However, the holder of this position looks at absolute preservation and looks at what is preserved, and if it is from the world of change and transformations, then changes and transformations are preserved for it. If it does not change or transform, then what is preserved for it is what his essence deserves. Then the holder of this position looks at the ranks of existents, and his preservation in his vigilance is according to what the rank of that world gives him. He does not pay attention to the purposes of persons of this type, for the two opposites do not come toget
