Of what is in addition to the fundamentals, such as voluntary acts of worship with the obligatory prayers, know that it is not called excess what is required by the essence due to the perfection of its reality. Whatever is in addition to what He gave to every thing His creation is additional, and if it is non-existent, the thing that is non-existent is not affected by its non-existence, and if it exists, it does not increase what is in it in itself at all. It is like the conditions among people of high status. If it exists among them, it does not increase their status, and if it does not exist, its absence does not decrease their status. Know that the divine supply of existing things is not interrupted, and if it is shortened, it is from the acceptor, not from the provider, and if the lack of supply in a specific matter is added to the right, then that shortness is the supply of interest in the right of that forbidden, for He knows the interests of creatures, and for this reason those who know God should not specify a need when asked. And let them ask for what is good for them without specifying. How many people ask for an eye.
