And when He alerted His servants that fasting is better for them if they choose it, He made clear to them that it was preferable to them so that they would give preference to fasting over breaking the fast, and this was part of His kindness to them, Glory be to Him, as He removed from them the confusion in making a choice with this degree of preference. However, tribulation accompanies it because God Almighty did not oblige him to do it. He did not make it more likely for him, rather he left the choice for him at the door, and therefore he is not sinning by breaking the fast. Whoever fasts it has fulfilled an obligation, for it is obligatory for him to do one of them, not according to the specification. If the one in charge, who is the slave, appoints him, then the obligation is determined in it, and in essence he has a choice in it.
