God Almighty’s saying, “Whoever obeys the Messenger has obeyed God.” The Almighty said, “O you who have believed, obey God,” that is, in what He commanded you to do on the tongue of His Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, from what he, may God bless him and grant him peace, said. This is evidence that God Almighty has prescribed for him, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, to command and prohibit, and it is not for those in authority to legislate a law. Rather, they have the right to command and prohibit what is permissible for them and for us. So if they command us to do something permissible or forbid us to do what is permissible and we obey them in that, we will be rewarded in that with the reward of one who obeys God. In the commands and prohibitions imposed on him, this is from God’s generosity towards us, and the heedless among us do not realize it.
