The polytheists, even if you asked them who created them, they would certainly say, “God,” for that is a wondrous warning. And when they were told, “Prostrate to the Most Merciful,” they did not see an eye for Him, nor did they know of Him except the name of God, and they did not know that He appointed the name of the Most Merciful. So they imagined in the Most Merciful that He was a partner with God, so they denied that, and they did not deny that regarding those who appointed Him as a god, according to what we have established. Because they know the names of those whom they have appointed as gods other than God, so they know by their names that they are not in reality in divinity like Him, for God Almighty has in them the unity of greatness and pride, and He directed them to prostrate to the Most Merciful to worship the unseen. And know that knowledge of God has two paths: the path is independent of the mind’s understanding of Him before the establishment of the law, and it is related to His oneness in divinity, and that He has no partner and what must be upon Him except Him, the Necessary Existent, and He has no access to knowledge of His essence, the Most High, and whoever approaches with his mind to knowledge of the essence of God has been exposed.
