A book is like the image of the apparent and the testimony, and its being speech is like the image of the hidden and the unseen, so you are between dense and gentle, and the letters in every aspect are dense in relation to the indication they carry of the meaning assigned to them, and the meaning may be gentle or it may be dense, but the significance is gentle in every aspect, and it is what the letter carries, which is its soul. And the spirit is gentler than the image. Then God has made a surah of the Qur’an a heart from a surah, and He has made this surah equal to the Qur’an in ten weights, and He has given the verses of the Qur’an a verse to which He has given it dominion over the verse of the Qur’an, and He has made of the surahs of this Qur’an a surah that weighs a third, a half, and a quarter of it, and that is because it gave it the status of that surah, and the whole thing is His words.
