And know that if a thing is one and the same, if different effects appear from it, then that is from the standpoint of the possibilities, not from the standpoint of its essence. Hence, if this matter is fulfilled, the saying of the Wise is invalidated: “No one can emanate from a single thing except one,” and the picture of that is in the element with which we are dealing: Fire is what it is. Fire whose ruling does not change in itself, and its effects differ in ruling, as it illuminates bodies and does not illuminate other bodies, even though its illumination is by combustion, for it is assisted by air. It complicates things, liquefies things, blackens, whitens, heats, burns, ripens, and melts solids, and they are on the same reality, and the readiness of the precipitates is a manifestation of the differences in their effects in the ruling. < /p
