As for us, we do not say the words of Abu Talib and limit ourselves, nor do we say the words of the other and limit ourselves, for each one of them said a truth in some sense and did not complete it. So I say that the first divine truths are directed to the upper spheres in the way in which they are directed to the places of their traces according to other than Abu Talib al-Makki, and every truth is accepted. According to their rank, and since these spheres of gentleness were closer, according to other than Abu Talib, to the truths, their acceptance was more prior to the absence of work and the purity of the place than the turmoil of relations, for it is pure. For this reason, he made them the effective cause, even if this speaker knew that those first truths were directed to what suits them in gentleness, which is the human breath, so he moved.
