God has made gratitude an act of worship, and acts of worship that cannot be neglected, and He has made honesty an act of worship, and what He calls praise in every situation. Backbiting is sincerity, and it is reprehensible honesty, and bad gossip is truthfulness, and it is reprehensible. There are many conditions for honesty in which honesty is reprehensible in general, since honesty is a praiseworthy characteristic, and if it is taken in detail, the condition distinguishes it. By custom and by law, just as lying in its entirety is a reprehensible characteristic, if it is restricted and detailed, it is considered a citizen’s duty, by custom and by law.
