And whoever abstains from asceticism except to seek the greater, then abstains from the least. Say, “The enjoyment of this world is little, so where is the asceticism?” So they left this world only out of fear lest He should visit them in the Hereafter. This is the essence of greed and desire for what is imagined to be asceticism, and this is the position of abandoning asceticism. As for its condition, it is asceticism in this world, and for this it is not proven.
