The conscience on his sleeves returns to existence. God Almighty told a story about Moses, peace be upon him, that he said to Pharaoh and his family, “I fled from you when I feared you.” Then my Lord granted me judgment and made me one of the messengers. Then he said, “And that is a blessing that He bestowed upon me if I worshiped.” Children of Israel, so his saying, and that is a blessing, his saying, “Did we not confuse you among us?” That blessing is the upbringing of Pharaoh, and who nullifies the blessings because it is a hasty reward. If he had not said that, that would have benefited him with God, since it was Pharaoh’s business to humiliate the Children of Israel and Moses among them, and he had honored him and adopted him. This is the meaning of his saying, “If you worshiped the Children of Israel and fleeing, it would have produced for Moses the message and the rule, so he was a successor to a messenger, because a messenger cannot be.” Ruler until he becomes caliph
