The people of appearances are the people of bliss and torment, and the people of oneness of self have neither bliss nor torment. Abu Yazid said, “I laughed for a time and cried for a time, and today I neither laugh nor cry.” He was asked, “How did I become?” He said, “I have neither morning nor evening. Rather, evening and morning are for those who adhere to the attribute and have no attribute for me.”
