With what he knew of the names by which he did not appoint his angels, including the caliphate, which is his saying, “Indeed, I will place a caliph on earth,” so if his saying was a caliph according to his saying, “And on earth there is a god,” then he is the representative of the truth in his earth, and the speech falls upon him. And if by caliphate he meant that he would succeed whoever was on it, then he would not have been able to do so. That was what was intended to represent the truth when he said, “A successor,” as they say, “He who causes corruption in it and sheds blood,” and this does not happen except for those who have authority, and there is no authority except for those who have the rank of advancement and enforcement of orders.
