There is no doubt that whoever abandons any part of following the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, that was not obligatory for him, then he will decrease God’s love for him to the same extent as he diminished following the Messenger, and he will deceive himself in his love for God for not completing the following, and according to the people of God’s path, if he followed Him in all his affairs. And he violated the following in one matter, which was not obligatory for him. Rather, he violated a Sunnah to be followed in that, which is permissible for him to follow in that, because he never followed it, but rather followed his own desires, not despite the high excuses that necessitate non-following. This is established by us.
