Some of our sheikhs told me his story about this. He said: A man from the people of Kairouan wanted to perform Hajj. He kept hesitating whether to walk by sea or on land, but one of them was not the most likely option for him. He said, “Ask the first man he met.” As he said to me, “I took that path.” He said, “The first person he met was a Jew, so he went to the pilgrimage.” His command was: Should I ask him? So he decided to ask him, so he consulted him, and he said to him: O Muslim, does not God say, “He is the one who makes you go on land and sea ?” So he put forward the land, so he presented what God has provided, and this is the way. We begin with what God began with, and we advance what God has provided, for whoever adheres to that will see good in his movements.< / p
