Abu Yazid al-Bistami said, “I looked at the people and saw them dead, so I said four takbirs over them.” Some of our sheikhs said, “Abu Yazid, a self-aware scholar, saw this quality as being for someone who has no knowledge of his Lord and does not recognize Him.” It is for the people who have the most complete knowledge of God, for the perfect knower sees himself dead in the clear. The hands of his Lord, the Almighty, the Majestic, when the truth was his hearing, his sight, his hand, and his tongue praying over him. God Almighty said, “He is the one who prays over you.” So if the truth was the one who prays, then his speech would be the Qur’an.
