The scholars differed with the exception of dirt. Some say that it is not permissible to perform dry ablution except with pure dirt. Some say it is permissible with everything that rises on the face of the earth, such as sand, gravel, and dirt. Some say something similar to this, including excess, and what it generates from the earth, such as light, arsenic, gypsum, clay, and marble. And some say: With the condition that the dirt be on the surface of the earth, and whoever believes in the dust of the garment and the milk, and as for our doctrine, it is permissible to perform tayammum with everything that is on the earth, from which the name “earth” is given, and if it leaves the earth, that is not permissible except for special soil.
