And know that the author of this argument is witnessing what has baffled minds and he has not been able to attain, which is knowledge of what is visible in the mirror, what it is, and what is seen, in terms of vision being attached to it. Is the visible thing imprinted in the eye of the person seeing it, or are the rays of sight’s light attached to the visible thing wherever it is? And there is no ruling except that this applies to it. Except for the author of this dhikr, he knows how the seer perceives the visible, what the vision is, and why it returns, and nothing gives him this knowledge from this dhikr except his saying, “Do not lower your eyes, and he will not be addressed except with what he knows.” So we know with certainty that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, knew that, and what is his saying?
